Iris

Family: Iriadaceae

Genus: Iris

Species: Iris sibirica

The Iris genus of the Iridaceae family includes over 300 species. The distinctive shape of an Iris flower is formed by three drooping sepals, known as ‘falls’, that provide a signal and landing place for pollinating insects, and three upright petals called ‘standards’. Siberian irises have grass-like leaves and flowers in a range of blues. They grow from rhizomes.
