Nasturtiums belong to the genus Tropaeolum, comprising about 100 species. The showy flowers of this climbing plant have five petals. The sepals form the funnel-shaped ‘spur’ at the back. The seeds, stems, flowers, and leaves of Nasturtiums are edible. 

The genus Nasturtium, of the the Brassicaceae family, describes the common Watercress, and not the common Nasturtium.
